Description

Information Only - Lovely hybrid plant which originated in California in 1952, Fremontodendron x 'Californian Glory' is an evergreen shrub with superb large (up to 6 cm across), rich-yellow flowers all summer. These colourful flowers are very eye-catching, set against the dark green leaves.

The long flowering season makes this plant particularly suitable for training against a warm and sunny wall or fence.

  • Position: Warm in full sun.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. Grows well on chalky soils.
  • Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. Fremontodendron x 'Californian Glory' requires shelter from cold winter winds and can suffer damage in a severe winter if not well protected.
  • Flowering Period: June - October.
  • Flower Colour: Bright yellow
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
  • Habit: Medium sized or eventually a large, branching shrub if left unpruned. Suitable for training against walls or fences.
    • Height: 3 m (10 ft).
    • Spread: 3 m (10 ft).
  • Notes: The stems are covered with fine hairs which can be an irritant to delicate skin. Avoid touching the plants with bare skin!


    Please also note that although we usually guarantee plants for a year after purchase, we will NOT replace a Fremontodendron x 'Californian Glory' which is damaged or killed by winter cold.
