Description

New to us, Fagus sylvatica 'Fruticosa' is a rare, slow growing, densely branching beech usually growing with a mulit-stemmed habit and large, rounded dark green summer leaves. The leaves turn shades of bronze before falling in autumn.

Fagus sylvatica 'Fruticosa' is a handsome shrub or eventually a very small branching tree in many years which is suited to gardens with limited space and can be grown in a large container if required.

Supplied Size: 4 or 5L pots (approx four to five years old, 30 - 50 cm tall)


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow .
  • Habit: Fagus sylvatica 'Fruticosa'  grows to be a large, densely branching shrub. It can be pruned to size if required.
    • Height: 3 - 4 m (10 - 13 ft) up to 1.5 (5  ft) after 10 years
