Handsome, rare tree which is native to Eastern North America, Carya cordiformis has large, dark green, pinnate leaves which turn an excellent yellow and gold in autumn before they fall. Slow growing at first, but once established is more vigorous. In a good position, Carya cordiformis will produce round nuts that while edible, have a high tannin content and are extremely bitter.

A large, striking garden tree prized for its autumn colour!

  • Position: Full sun or light, partial shade.
  • Soil: Fertile, well drained soil. Will tolerate chalky soils.
