Description

Known for its very attractive, peeling, papery white bark, Betula papyrifera is a fast growing ornamental tree. The bright green leaves can turn shades of yellow or even orange before falling in a good crisp autumn.

Betula papyrifera is an attractive and easy to grow garden or woodland tree suitable for a position in sun or light, dappled shade.

Supplied Size: 7.5L pots (approx 220 - 240 cm tall) - these are to large to send with our mail order service and are only available for collection from our nursery


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Vigorous
  • Habit: Betula papyrifera grows to be a medium sized, slender, branching tree.
    • Height: eventually 15 m (50 ft) / or up to 6 - 8 m (20 - 26 ft after 10 years)
    • Spread: 10 m (32 ft) / or up to 3 - 4 m (10 - 13 ft after 10 years)
  • Notes: Please be aware that the immature bark of Betula papyrifera is bronze-brown in colour and it can take 3 - 6 years for the bark to turn white.
