Description

An unusual and handsome maple with deeply divided, dark purple leaves which turn crimson-red in the autumn before falling and a graceful, slightly weeping habit.

Acer palmatum 'Sherwood Flame' grows to be a large branching shrub, spreading once established. Excellent choice for a mixed border and can be grown successfully in a large container.

Supplied Size: 5L pot (approx 4 years old, 40 - 50 cm tall)


  • Position: Full sun or partial shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy. Acer palmatum 'Sherwood Flame' requires shelter from cold winter winds.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: A medium sized or eventually large spreading shrub.
    • Height: 5 m (15 ft) / [up to 2.5 m (8 ft) after 10 years]
    • Spread: 5 m (16 ft) / [up to 2.5 m (8 ft) after 10 years]
  • Notes: This plant is similar in appearance to Acer palmatum 'Burgundy Lace'.
