Description

A dwarf bamboo native to the forests and woods of eastern Asia and Japan, Pleioblastus pygmaeus has small narrow, lush green leaves and forms a dense carpet once established. A superb ground cover plant for suppressing weed or adding leafy interest to gardens or woody areas!

  • Position: Sun or shade.
  • Soil: Moist, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Low spreading bamboo.
    • Height: up to 60 cm (2 ft)
    • Spread: 2 m (6 ft)+
  • Notes: As this plant can spread, in smaller gardens Pleioblastus pygmaeus is usually best planted in an area with restricted root space, for example at the edge of a border or path.
