Description

Available Autumn 2018 - An unusual selection, Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Matthaei Broom' is relatively slow growing and suitable for small gardens with congested branches once established with soft, bright green summer leaves.This is a deciduous conifer and the leaves will fall in autumn after they turn golden yellow or bronze.

Our Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Matthaei Broom'  are grafted on approx 50 - 60 cm stems with a young branching head to give them some initial height.

Supplied Size: 3L / 4L containers (approx 25 cm stems with a grafted,  branching head, total height approx 50 - 60 cm tall) - very limited number of plants available this year


  • Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Moist, fertile soil. Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Matthaei Broom' particularly enjoys damp or wet sites.
  • Hardiness: Hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Very slow to slow.
  • Habit: Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Matthaei Broom' will grow to be a branching, rounded very small tree in many years.
    • Height: up to 2 - 3 m (6 - 10 ft) in many years
    • Spread: 2 m (6 ft).
  • Notes: Metasequoia glyptostroboides 'Matthaei Broom' is tolerant of atmospheric pollution and generally grows well in urban areas.
